SoloVino 2025: “Vignaioli in Movimento” Takes Center Stage in Santo Stefano Roero

The fifth edition of the SoloVino fair-market, SoloVino 2025, is set to take place on March 15th in Santo Stefano Roero (CN), at the Palarocche. This year’s theme, “Vignaioli in movimento”, will explore the multifaceted connection between wine and the concept of migration – be it geographical, professional, or cultural.

A Celebration of Migration and Change

Organized by the collective SoloRoero, the event aims to narrate the stories of people in motion: those who move from the city to the countryside, those who migrate abroad, and those who leave diverse professions for the world of wine. According to the founders of SoloRoero, Emanuele and Enrico Cauda, Luca Faccenda, Carolina Roggero and Alberto Oggero, “Vignaioli in movimento” seeks to highlight the return to roots, the rediscovery of nature, and the transformative and growth-oriented aspects of movement that extend beyond the physical. This theme also embraces sustainability, inclusion, and the welcoming of those who migrate out of necessity.

Featured Wineries and Special Guests

Thirty “artisanal wine producers” from Piemonte, Toscana, Emilia Romagna, and Sicilia will animate SoloVino 2025. A special guest, Domaine Camille Thiriet from Borgogna, France, will also be featured. Beyond tasting and purchasing high-quality artisanal wines from these producers, visitors will have the opportunity to delve into the “migration” stories behind the 30 participating wineries.

Round Table Discussion on Accoglienza (Welcoming)

The day will commence at 9:30 AM with a round table discussion dedicated to the theme of accoglienza (welcoming). Participants will include the SoloRoero collective, Alpi del Mare Onlus, Maria Cristina Galeasso, Enrico Faccenda, Alberto Gatto, and Isabel Oberlin. This discussion will reflect on the experiences of winegrowers who have embraced new lands, bringing their traditions and innovations, and those who have found in wine and agriculture an opportunity for integration and renewal.

Food, Music, and Social Interaction

From 12:00 PM to 10:00 PM, attendees can enjoy dishes prepared by the Proloco of Santo Stefano Roero, in collaboration with the Dj Chef brigade and guests from the Migrant Reception Center of Santo Stefano Roero. The evening will conclude with live music and a DJ set.

Stories of Change: Winemakers on a Journey

SoloVino 2025 will give voice to the stories of change of winegrowers who have embarked on a “journey”. Examples include Sean O’Callaghan, who moved to Tuscany from Sri Lanka and now works at Tenuta di Carleone, and Tommaso Cappa and Agnese Caprioli, who moved from Turin to cultivate vineyards in Dogliani. Other stories include Gabriele Buondonno and Valeria Sodano from Naples who established a pioneering organic farm in Chianti, and Lara Rocchetti and Luisa Sala from Turin who moved to Langa to cultivate prestigious northern Italian grape varieties. The event will also highlight those who transitioned from different professional paths to wine, such as Giuseppe Amato and Kyriaki Kalimeri, who founded the Valdisole winery.

Exploring Lesser-Known Territories and Native Grape Varieties

The theme of movement also encompasses the exploration of lesser-known territories and the valorization of endangered native grape varieties. The Braccia Rese winery exemplifies this by working with varieties like Neretta Cuneese and Quagliano. Notably, their name symbolizes the concept of returning “arms” previously engaged in different professions to agriculture.

Sustainability and Organic Farming Practices

Sustainability is another central aspect for all the winegrowers present at SoloVino. Wineries like Sette and Philine Isabelle follow organic and biodynamic practices, while Michele Pasquero and Annette Hilberg operate a “bioergodinamico” farm. Even the special guest, Domaine Camille Thiriet, adheres to organic farming principles and biodiversity.

From Competition to Cooperation in the Wine Industry

SoloVino 2025 also highlights the shift from competition to cooperation within the wine industry. SoloRoero itself, comprising Cascina Fornace, Valfaccenda, and Alberto Oggero, embodies this spirit by promoting the cultivation of Roero Arneis and Roero Docg with natural or certified organic methods.

Social Inclusion and Agricultural Integration

In a significant example of accoglienza and agriculture, SoloRoero collaborates with the CAS of Santo Stefano Roero, managed by Cooperativa Alpi del Mare Onlus, to facilitate the integration of migrants through work in the vineyards. This collaboration offers new opportunities for those welcomed and brings new vitality to local businesses. SoloVino further emphasizes social inclusion through partnerships with projects like 8pari, offering work opportunities to vulnerable individuals.

A Unique Event Blending Wine, Stories, and Community

SoloVino 2025 promises to be an engaging event that not only showcases quality artisanal wines but also provides a platform for exploring compelling stories of movement, change, sustainability, and collaboration within the wine world. The detailed program for the event is available at www.soloroero.it.
